Taitaja9 is a competition for 9th graders of comprehensive schools in craftsmanship. The aim of the competition is to improve knowledge of practical subjects, particularly of technical, textile work and home economics subjects, in a fun and inspiring way.

9th graders of comprehensive schools form a mixed team of three people. The team members may come from different classes as long as they come from the same school. The selected team signs up for the local qualifying and then the best teams in the local qualifying continue on to the regional qualifying. The winning team is determined in the finals, which are arranged in conjunction with the Taitaja competition. Every member of the winning team will be awarded with a brand new scooter!

There are 3 different stages in the Taitaja 9 competition.

Local Competitions

Local competitions are arranged by vocational schools around Finland. The competition organisers are responsible for the planning of the tasks, the awards and other arrangements, so that local competitions might differ slightly from one another.

The goal is for competing teams to solve different tasks, and the team that solves the tasks the fastest and in an approved manner is selected as the winning team. The best teams in the local competitions continue on to the regional competitions.

Regional Competitions

The local competition organisers notify the regional competition organisers of the winners of the local competitions. The regional organisers are responsible for the planning of the tasks, the awards and other arrangements, so that regional competitions might differ slightly from one another. In the regional competitions, the teams always compete against themselves on a competition course containing different tasks. Regional competition winners continue on to compete in the finals.

The Finals

The finals take place in conjunction with the Taitaja 2011 Finnish National Skills Competition, on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 in Kuopio.
The teams in the finals compete on a competition course containing different tasks. The team that solves the tasks the fastest and in an approved manner is selected as the winning team.
